Recycling Tips on Windy Collection Days
March can be a windy month. If your collection takes place on a windy day, please take precautions with your curbside recycling containers to prevent the aluminum cans, plastic bottles, paper, and cardboard from being blown out and littering the neighborhood. A useful trick is to place a brown paper grocery bag full of newspapers or other heavier items on top of the lighter materials. This helps keep those lighter items from being blown out and creating litter.

| Keep Virginia Beautiful & Plastic Bag Recycling
Plastic bags cannot be recycled in our curbside and drop-off programs. However, you can recycle plastics bags at local grocery and retail stores offering a plastic bag recycling program or you can use personal reusable tote bags. Click here for more info.
A Bags life is a statewide plastic bag awareness campaign championed by Keep Virginia Beautiful (KVB). The KVB website provides information on accepted plastics (plastic grocery bags; plastic retail bags; plastic dry-cleaning bags; plastic bread bags; plastic film; plastic newspaper sleeves; plastic shrink wrap; etc.) for recycling as well as a search engine to look up participating stores. By placing your zip code in this search engine a listing of local stores that offer a plastic bag recycling program will pop up. For more information on this initiative, contact the KVB office at (804) 803-1582 or by email info@keepvirginiabeautiful.org
